GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Introduction: - Microbiology is the study of Microbes that infect human, the disease they cause, their Diagnosis, Prevention and treatment. It also deals with the response of human host to microbial and other antigens.
  2. The Department of Microbiology has three primary responsibilities such as Teaching/Training, Diagnostic Laboratory Services and Research Activities.
  3. The Microbiology Department is actively involved in teaching undergraduates (MBBS & DMLT) and postgraduates (MD).
  4. The Microbiology Laboratory provides a gamut of advance and novel diagnostic tests. It offers quality diagnostic services to the various clinical departments which includes Bacterial Culture & Sensitivity, Serological tests, Mycology, Infection Control services, Mycobacteriology. Tests that have been added in the recent years to the meet the diagnostic needs of the hospital include, PCR for Influenza H1N1, NS1 Antigen detection, IgM detection by ELISA for diagnosis of Dengue and Scrub Typhus, DST for TB.
MISSION

The mission of the department of Microbiology is to educate and train students in the discipline of Microbiology ant to expand the body of knowledge of this scientific field through research. The specific goal of the department is to:

  1. Offer course to enhance the intellectual foundation and preparation of students for life in a complex, dynamic technological world
  2. Offers undergraduate majors in Microbiology and Medical laboratory science (MLS) and partners with other Departments to prepare students for career in Clinical Microbiology.
  3. Prepare students for depth knowledge and research skill for professional careers in Microbiology.
  4. Enhance opportunities for research and scholarship for faculty members as well as undergraduate students.
  5. Preserve add to evaluate and transmit knowledge in the field of Microbiology.
  6. The mission of department is to promote good quality education and inspiring training in different discipline of Microbiology.
  7. To create an innovative, creative study environment to the students.
  8. To train the students, excel in both practical and theoretical aspects of Microbiology.
  9. Motivate and guide the students to develop new techniques in Microbiology.
  10. Emphasis on quality and value in all vision, mission and core endowers values for next 5 years.

MAJOR GOALS

  1. Accreditation of laboratory service by NABL and collaboration with well reputed laboratories for regular Quality Control checkups.
  2. Introducing Virology laboratories at the earliest.
  3. Clinico-Microbiological meets on monthly basis to interact with clinicians and understand their problems.
  4. Paperless work by e-services enhancement: WiFi etc.
  5. Optimum utilization of various equipments.
  6. Separate room to laboratory staff.
  7. Landline intercom facilities between the entire Department, their subsections and laboratories.
  8. Providing additional manpower keeping in view expanding workload as criteria for enhancement of staff (Laboratory Technician, Residents, Data Entry Operators and Faculties) not ceiling limit as MCI minimum staff requirement.
  9. Construction of common Sterilization room.
  10. Construction of common washing room.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Department of Microbiology Government Medical College Doda although in its infancy is committed to provide a clinician a complete frame work to achieve an accurate diagnosis and hence treat the patient efficiently.
  2. Educate the students (MBBS, DMLT and MLT) and enable them to learn the Microbiological processes by appreciating learning by doing and helping them to deliver highest quality services.
